Asymmetric bars are used in gymnastics. With the lower bar sitting 1 metre 80 above the ground and the high bar a towering 2 metres 50 above the ground.
Bar work is based on strength and swing and enables the gymnasts to feel like monkeys in the trees. Skills involve circling around the bar and swinging and dismounting away from the bar. Transferring between the bars is a tricky business, especially for smaller gymnasts but learning to swing on the high bar helps with confidence and bravery and is worth all the effort.
Bar work is great for building strong muscles and is often a favourite of the gymnasts.
